The Star & Dove is the perfect stop after an amble round the glorious Victoria Park. The traditional pub exterior leads into an eclectic bar area with a mish mash of reclaimed leather armchairs and wooden tables on original Victorian parquet floors. The mixed clientele of trendy 30-somethings and locals suggests a real gastro pub at the heart of the community. Make your way upstairs to the restaurant and the scene changes. Dark blue walls, original drawings and banquet seating around linen-clothed tables makes for comfortable dining. An array of interesting reviews includes a rare 5-star write up from the Evening Post. Chef and Proprietor, Eamon Fullalove, previously at the forefront of Jamie Oliver's Fifteen in London, offers a regularly changing menu of well-executed modern Italian dishes from locally-sourced ingredients and cooked with passion, including seared scallops to start and leg of lamb with rosemary potatoes for mains. There is also a good selection of wines available under £20.
