South Bristol's various "up and coming" areas have certainly been rocketing in the last few years and The Star & Dove in Totterdown is the perfect ingredient, promising great things to both local residents and diners from further afield. Situated near the edge of the glorious Victoria Park, The Star & Dove is the perfect stop after an amble around in the early evening sun. The traditional pub exterior leads into an eclectic bar area with a mish mash of reclaimed leather armchairs and wooden tables on original Victorian parquet floors. The mixed clientele of trendy 30-somethings and locals (on Fridays, Mum's Club offers organic purées for babies) suggests a real gastro pub at the heart of the community. Bar food, served Tuesday to Sunday, includes homemade sausages and charcuterie, British cheeses and pickles and homemade pork pies. The great British pub quiz is hosted on Tuesday evenings with pasta and pizzas at just £5.
