Three years ago, Naval Officer Max Mason thought that every restaurant he saw was a link in a big chain, so he decided to draw a 20-mile circle around a restaurant site in Oxford and source everything practicable from within that! It worked incredibly well there, so he’s now brought the idea to Bristol and the new restaurant opened in September 2007. Max sees the Big Bang as a celebration of British food – the opening menu sees faggots, meatloaf, an array of sausage and mash dishes and some great puddings, with everything sourced from within 20 miles, the aim being that diners know, when they eat here, that they are supporting a local network of suppliers. Max Says “It’s hugely exciting to bring what has been such a runaway success in Oxford to another similarly exciting town and be able to showcase the best of the West on our menu!”
